It is now just over two months since Hetton New Dawn's activities stopped in response to the Covid19 pandemic lockdown, with one exception - our allotment work has continued so that we can provide fresh food to Loaves & Fishes food bank, which continues to supply food to those in financial need. When crops are ready, we will be giving produce to the food bank and to our Welcome Cafes when the are able to open again.
Our allotment is also giving people the chance to volunteer and get involved in healthy exercise in a safe setting. (All social distancing requirements are being met as are hygiene, with antibacterial hand gel and gloves provided.
In the ten weeks we have been closed, we have maintained regular contact with many of our members, especially those who are most vulnerable; offering help and support where needed but more importantly a "listening ear" during this period of isolation.
We are currently looking at what we can offer over the summer period to encourage our members to take part in small group social activities again. This is dependant on the easing of the lockdown restrictions and will be fully in line with Government guidelines. We look forward to being involved with the people of our community as soon as we are able.
